ABOUT US

Critter Shack Rescue is an all-volunteer organization and with two paid veterinarians on staff at our low cost spay/neuter clinic.

Funded by donations, fund-raisers, adoptions, and grants, the organization has been successful in rescuing thousands of adoptable animals.  All of the pets offered for adoption are spayed/neutered/vaccinated, furthering the goal of reducing the numbers of homeless pets in need of rescue.

Many of the rescued animals come from area shelters throughout the Concho Valley and many had been scheduled for euthanasia. Critter Shack advocates for the humane treatment of animals, works to prevent the abandonment of animals, facilitates a spay and neuter program, and provides education in animal care, behavior, and humane treatment, along with establishing an ongoing adoption program designed to find caring homes for rescued animals.

As part of these efforts, Critter Shack is a partner with PetSmart Charities, which provides an on-site area for adoptable cats and offers space at the PetSmart in San Angelo for dog adoptions twice a month; PetSmart Charities also makes a monetary donation for each animal adopted on-site.

Critter Shack volunteers recognize education and free or low cost spay/neuter, along with a robust adoption program are the solutions to pet overpopulation and abandonment.

Trap, Neuter, Return Resources
TNR is humane and non-lethal approach to long term free-roaming cat population control. You will find many resources on how to implement a TNR program in your neighborhood. Also, we have resources for those who need cat deterrents.

There's nothing more frustrating than to have spent weeks preparing to trap cats, and your plans are sabotaged by a neighbor or feeder that unknowingly feeds the cats on trapping day. The cats will not be hungry and less likely to enter a trap. Your hard work and effort and planning seem like a waste, and you have to cancel the vet appointments you made which ultimately hurts all parties. Be sure to find out who else is feeding in your area. Let them know your plans, and give them your TNR planner.
